Springtime in our school district means Field Day and races! Which my kids just LOVE. This year Janessa did AMAZING!!! She got either 1st or 2nd in every event she tried - Distance run (1/2 mile), Dash (100 meters), High jump and Long jump.
This is her coming in 2nd in the distance run, right behind her friend Megan.

After the school has its field day then those 5th thru 8th grade students that place in the top 2 of each event then go to a track meet against the other 4 or 5 schools that feed into their high school. Since Janessa did so well at the field day she was able to compete in the high jump, long jump, 100 meter And 4X100 relay. She could only compete in 4 events so she chose to not do the 1/2 mile (and I don't blame her).

Allana only tried the dash(100 meter) at field day and got 4th. So that meant that she was able to be part of the 4X100 relay. They were SOOOOOO fast. Of course they got 1st at the track meet. Those 7th and 8th graders that placed in the top 3 of the first track meet then go on to the District meet which includes all 34 elementary schools in our district. The day of the District meet one of Allana's relay team members got sick and couldn't race so they had to bring in another girl that wasn't quite as fast or had even had a chance to practice and...
they got 2nd by a hair.
This is a picture after the 1st track meet of the original team. (Allana is 2nd to the left)

It was really fun watching my girls do something they love and are good at. It gave me a little glimpse into what it will be like in a couple of years watching them both at all the high school track meets!
