Mexican Cruise

Our cruise to Mexico was amazing. We had so much fun! We left out of Los Angeles on Sunday, June 21st on the Mariner of the Seas, Royal Caribbean. The boat was so huge, it had everything on it. We spent Sunday and Monday on the boat, getting used to the laid back schedule, being pampered and served all day. Our first port was Cabo San Lucas. The weather was good, warm and sunny. A bit windy but not too bad to bug us. We decided we wanted to go snorkeling, so once off the boat we found a nice outfit to take us to a nearby cove to swim with the fishes. This picture is of us in front of the "arches of Cabo San Lucas"
Snorkeling was lots of fun. We did it a couple of years ago in Costa Rica so we knew what to expect. The waters in this cove were a lot more choppy because of the wind, etc. so it made me a little nervous when we got close to the rocks. But we were able to see lots of fish and Brady was able to use his new underwater digital camera.

The next day we were in Mazatlan. It was a bit rainy and most of the people didn't even get off the boat but we braved the weather and were glad we did. We took a little tour of the town in an open air taxi. We were able to catch the crazy guys dive off the rocks. Seriously, he landed only a couple of feet from the rocks!

We were able to enjoy the shopping in Mazatlan as well. Since most people stayed on the boat, the shops weren't very busy. Actually, our boat was the first boat to come back to these ports since they were closed due to the swine flu, so the locals were very glad to see us!

Our third port was Puerto Vallarta. The weather was finally perfect. We knew we wanted to go on a zip line in the jungle so after asking around at the port we were able to find someone to take us to one. It was great because we didn't go with a tour so it was just the two of us. The zip line was made in a canyon with the lines going from one side of the canyon to the other. We flew over buildings, the highway, a farm, the river and lots and lots of trees! We were so high up!! The first picture is of me coming in from a long line.

Here is Brady, he always made it look so easy!

Here is a video Brady took. Be patient for the first few seconds before he leaves. It looks like he is closer to the ground than he actually is. In the middle he even looks like his feet may touch the water but really, he is about 20 to 30 feet off the ground at that point!

After the zip line tour we went back into town and ate at a nice little restaurant on the beach. As we were eating we watched the para sails fly back and forth across the beach. We decided we still had plenty of time so we went in search of the para sails. We found an outfit that let you off right on the beach. So, next thing we knew we were flying! They strapped me up, hooked me to the sail, signaled to the boat and before I could have second thoughts I was higher than the hotels! They took us down the beach and back. I thought we were high up on the zip line!!! Boy was I wrong!!! It was so exhilarating and scary all at the same time. When it came time to bring me back down it was my job to pull on the sail to turn me perpendicular (like a T) to the beach but I guess my upper body strength isn't what it should have been so they ended up chasing me a bit down the beach to catch me! Luckily, they did! Yea!!! This first shot is of me.

This second shot is Brady way up there. He tried to get a picture of the boat but it was so far away you can barely see it!

This last shot is also Brady on the para sail, It shows you how high we really were. I thought it was a great shot of Puerto Vallarta. I was way too scared to attempt to take any picture while up so high. After our three ports we had a few days on the boat until we got home. The boat had so much to do we were NEVER bored. They did a great job of having different activities planned for everyone. Brady played in a couple of dodge-ball tournaments. He did great and had lots of fun. If you can't find him - he is the one in the orange :)

The boat had so much on it, we just went from one thing to the next. There was an ice rink, which I attempted to skate but Brady said, no thanks. A rock wall and an in-line skating rink, which we never got around to. We tried out the mini golf, that was fun. I lost a ball :( and Brady decided to put his feet behind the hole like a backboard so I at least had a chance. Hey, that boat was moving it was hard!
Brady played basketball a couple of times. He wished he would have brought his basketball shoes but his ankles only hurt the last day on the boat so it wasn't too bad.

Of course there were lots of awesome shows every night. Some better than others. The ice show was amazing. And the best thing on a cruise ship??? The non-stop food!!! Here we are in the dining room on casual night. We were very lucky the other two couples at our table were so fun and we all got along great and laughed so hard every night.

I just need to thank a few people who helped make this wonderful vacation possible:
-My brother, Mark. For being a great chauffeur and letting us use his driveway as a parking lot for our car.
-Our friends, Whitney and Ray for watching Robert for 2 days,
-Brady's sister, Sherena for putting up with Robert for 2 days,
-Brady's parents for taking their turn and having Robert for 2 days as well,
-Brady's brother, Sterling for not only having Robert for 2 days but for watching, feeding and walking our dog Ali and our cat Phoebe even when his sweet wife was right in the middle of her finals!
-and of course, Brady's brother's wife, Erica. Who watched all three of my girls for the whole 8 days even while her husband C.J. was out of town for work. AND she took some amazing pictures of the girls!
The most important person to thank for my wonderful week away is my wonderful husband Brady!!! We had such a great time we felt like we were still on the boat 2 days later! :) Now we get to plan where we are going next...
