Acapulco

Brady and I went to Acapulco, Mexico for a week. We left the kids home with Brady's brother, Sterling and his wife, Olivia and their adorable son, Britton. They all survived for a week without us. I'm afraid Sterling and Olivia may stop with only one child now and my kids appreciate us just a little bit more but hey, everyone survived, right?

Brady and I on the other hand, did much more than survive. We had an amazing time with just the right amount of relaxing and being adventurous. We stayed in the Diamond Zone in Acapulco. This is a shot from the plane. Our resort is near the top of the picture, right on the beach. We stayed at the Grand Mayan Resort. It was beautiful and luxurious all at the same time.

Our room was on the top floor in the building on the right. It was a one bedroom with a kitchen and living room. Our balcony had a little pool, which we never went into because it wasn't heated and not very warm. But the room was beautiful.

Since our resort was right on the beach we spent every evening strolling down the beach. Very relaxing and romantic.

We were able to go snorkeling twice during our week there. The first time was in a small boat and it was basically just us with a guide. We had tons of fun and were able to see lots of fish. The second time out was with a small group on a Double Decker boat. The other people on the boat were also staying at the same resort as we were. We ended up becoming quick friends and spent the rest of the week hanging out on and off together.

Here is Brady holding a sea turtle that our guide just jumped into the water and pulled up on board. He said that they usually swim straight down really fast and he isn't able to catch them so it was a treat to see one up close. Brady said it felt like it was at least 50 lbs when he was holding it.

The next handful of pictures are from our underwater camera while we were snorkeling. There were so many fish and the water was really clear most of the time. We were able to swim up against an island so there were virtually no waves and it was really easy to get close to the rocks where the fish like to hide.

This is a picture of some kind of sea snake. The guide said it was harmless but it still freaked me out pretty good.

This is a starfish. We were able to hold it as it crawled across our hand. All of it's tentacles creeping across my hand was also a bit creepy.

Another day we hired a guy to take us on a tour of the city. He took us to lots of different places we never would have been able to find on our own. The next handful of shots are just random pictures from that tour.

On another day we went with that same guide out of the city about an hour, into the mountains to see the local ruins. Not sure how accurate their info was about the site but it was pretty interesting to see.

On the way home from the ruins, our guide (which did a great job and if you are ever going to Acapulco, I would highly recommend him) took us to a local bakery to watch how they made the breads that the locals would put in these baskets and carry them on their heads and sell them house to house.

Of course, Brady had to join in a game of soccer on the beach. He also tried his hand at boogie boarding in the waves. He could spend hours just swimming in the ocean while I spent hours lying in my cabana on the beach getting just enough sun and sometimes reading my book. We even both had a massage right on the beach with the waves crashing as our background music.

A week full of fun, relaxing, exciting and interesting things to discover. It was nice to discover a new place we have never been while at the same time enjoying each others company and remembering how much we love each other.
